For this week, the assignment was to do something related to video and sound. I get so excited about this and started to think about what to do. At first, I was thinking about doing something about texture simulation and generative art. So I looked up online to find some inspiration.
Visually, I was inspired by Anthony McCall`s light sculpture.
The light through air is so touching, as the mist in the forest with hope. But I want to combine this feeling with coding that make something feel real and living on the screen. So I started to find related work about this.
Combined with the feeling I got from Anthony McCall, I decided to make some smoke floating on the screen. I started to code. When I was getting to it, I wrote the wrong code but it turned out to be good. So I saved that sketch. But instead of giving people a feeling of smoke, this sketch is more like a flashing brush or the feeling of sword or blade.

I like it but I still wonder what my initial idea would look like on the screen so I modified the code and I got the following.
/try to move your mouse even faster on the following blank part of page/ See full sketch
It is relatively satisfied but I felt that interaction of it is not strong.
So I was thinking, instead of control it with mouth, why not use the face tracking library and make it controlled by face. Initially, I was thinking, when I spin my head fast enough, it will generate smoke around my head. But the result is not good, and interaction seems to be abrupt. So I started to think the actions related to smoke. And I got the following in the end.
/Move your face and pretend to blow a smoke ring (you need to blow with the air sound coming out of your mouth) and move your mouse to attract your smoke ring / See full sketch
Although it seems completely off my initial pure texture idea. But I find it fun to play with, so why not keep it.
